Stay Focus On What Matters.
In this world with so many noises everywhere, staying focus on a task or trying to achieve a goal can become very challenging. We are often distracted by the news, social media, friends, and family. Which hinders us from getting the things that matters done. Staying focus requires us to clear our mind, get rid of the things that are distracting us and have the mind to be determined to stay focus on what matters most.
Are you really busy doing what matters?
Like many others, you may lay on your bed and start to wonder why the day flew by so fast. You start going through your head to see how much you had accomplished today. Your hand over your forehead, frustrated, drowned in regrets, you flip over, thinking what could be done better tomorrow. You make a firm decision to start fresh the next day. Raise your hand if you are in a similar situation. You get done so little throughout the day even though you keep telling your friends you are so busy. How many of us who say we are busy are actually productive working on what matters? Or are we busy doing one thing and checking social media at the same time? Time flies when you do things that don’t require brain power. Then you regret over and over why you couldn’t start your own business, write your book, and or travel the world.
It’s only yourself to blame, more like your brain to blame. We share 99% DNA with chimpanzees. Understandably, our “monkey” brain flits around, getting distracted by stimuli that goes through our brain every second. It’s very hard to turn our “monkey” brain off for the other 1% DNA that facilitates all inventions and creativity of civilization. we find it very difficult to stay focus on what matters to us because we are so distracted by the other 99% of our “monkey” brain that is focus on all the noises around us.
How to stay focus on what matter.
If you wish to be successful and become the captain of your life, you have to master your “monkey” brain and put it under control. There’s no other way to do it than to practice focusing on one thing at a time. Preceding the focus, we must first become aware of our emotions and thoughts.
Engage in the “why”
Why do I keep checking my phone? Why do I delay writing that book? Ask yourself quick bursts of why questions that will help you move to the next phrase of clearing up negative emotions. Everyone’s why is different, but the point is to get to the real cause of why you keep getting distracted. Why was i so distracted from getting the task done yesterday? or the day before that?
Engage in the “how”
So then how do I stop checking my phone? How do I start writing the first page of my book? How do I create a plan for my business? One step at a time. A series of questions can trigger your brain into mission mode. Keep asking yourself how questions till you can come up with a solid plan to get the task done.
Stay Focus on what matters.
Asking why and how should reinforces your purpose and dim every distraction in the background. The trick is once you start noticing yourself to disengage in things like checking social media while you’re working, you start getting more productive. Start engaging in your questions right away. Sometimes, by stopping and doing nothing (similar to meditation), allows you to shut down your brain and give it time to clear out the junks and noises. Pick a task. Focus on it for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes. Break it down into manageable pieces and reward yourself once you finish.
The next time you go to bed, you will have clarity of mind and a clear direction of what you want to do the next day. You’ll be more dedicated and also able to stay focus on what matters. And don’t forget early morning meditation helps tremendously. Remember, to stay focus on what matters you have to focus on one thing at a time and turn off that monkey brain. You’ll be amazed at your potential.
